First graders, today we are going to learn about the different elements of our environment: land, water, and air.
Land is the solid surface of the Earth. It includes mountains, valleys, plains, and everything else that is not water. We walk and play on the land. We build our houses and cities on the land.
Water is very important for life. It is found in oceans, rivers, lakes, and even underground. We use water for drinking, bathing, and washing things. Fish and other animals live in the water, and some plants grow in water too.
Air is the invisible mixture of gases that surrounds the Earth. We breathe air all the time. Birds and airplanes fly in the air. The wind is moving air, and it can be strong or gentle.
Now that you've learned about land, water, and air, take some time to think about how you use and interact with each of these elements in your daily life. You can also draw a picture showing examples of land, water, and air around you!
