Decoding Strategies
Decoding strategies are techniques that readers use to decode or figure out unfamiliar words while reading. These strategies help students become more proficient in reading and improve their comprehension skills.
Types of Decoding Strategies
- Phonics: Using knowledge of letter-sound relationships to decode words.
- Context Clues: Using the surrounding text to understand the meaning of an unfamiliar word.
- Word Analysis: Breaking down words into smaller parts (prefixes, suffixes, and roots) to understand their meaning.
