Respiration is the process by which living organisms take in oxygen and release carbon dioxide. In humans and many other animals, respiration involves breathing in oxygen through the respiratory system and exhaling carbon dioxide as a waste product. The process of respiration also includes cellular respiration, where cells use oxygen to produce energy from food molecules.
Excretion is the process of removing waste products from the body. In animals, this can include the removal of metabolic waste products such as urea and uric acid through the urinary system. Other forms of excretion include the removal of carbon dioxide through respiration, and the elimination of solid waste through the digestive system.
